Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 April 2026. Effective immediately for new users; existing users are notified of material changes by email.

1. Who we are

Bas Udrus ("we", "us", "the service") is a study-partner matching platform operated from Amman, Jordan, serving students at Jordanian universities. Contact: basudrusjo@gmail.com. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and us whenever you access or use the service at basudrus.com.

2. Eligibility

You may use Bas Udrus only if:

• You are at least 16 years old (18 for Pro subscriptions), or have parent/guardian consent where required by local law.
• You are a current student, alumnus, or educator affiliated with a recognized university (initial target: Jordanian universities; expansion planned).
• You can enter into a binding contract under the law of your residence.
• You have not previously been banned from the service.

3. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your password and account credentials confidential. You must use a real name, a valid email, and accurate university/major/year information. You may not share a single account with another person or create multiple accounts to circumvent limits or bans.

We auto-provision a basic profile at sign-up. You complete it during onboarding. An incomplete profile (missing university or major) limits some features.

4. Acceptable use

When using Bas Udrus you agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, intimidate, impersonate, or dox any other user.
• Solicit romantic or commercial relationships, or use the platform for anything other than academic collaboration.
• Share, upload, or link to content that is illegal, sexually explicit, violent, discriminatory, or infringes intellectual property.
• Use the AI tutor to generate complete solutions for graded assignments you submit as your own work — doing so violates your university's academic integrity policy, not just ours. Our AI is explicitly instructed to explain rather than ghostwrite, but the ethical responsibility is yours.
• Scrape, mirror, rehost, or reverse-engineer the service or its data.
• Send spam, phishing, malware, or mass unsolicited messages to other users.
• Attempt to break authentication, bypass rate limits, or exploit security vulnerabilities (responsible disclosure is welcomed at basudrusjo@gmail.com).
• Use the service if prohibited by your local law.

5. Your content

You keep full ownership of everything you post, send, or upload — your bio, messages, help requests, photos, voice recordings, files. By using the service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and transmit your content only as needed to operate Bas Udrus (e.g. showing your profile to matched partners, delivering your message to the intended recipient, storing your photo in our avatar bucket).

We do not train any AI model on your messages, voice clips, or private chats. Messages stay on our infrastructure. AI prompts sent to third-party providers (Anthropic Claude) are processed under their zero-retention terms and are not used for training — see our Privacy Policy for the detail.

6. AI features — explicit disclaimers

The service offers four AI features, all positioned as study aids: a tutor ("Ustaz"), a study-motivation companion ("Noor") for academic stress and exam-prep mindset, a study planner, and a match scorer. You agree that:

• Ustaz is not a certified teacher. Its explanations can be wrong. Verify against your course material before an exam.
• Noor is a study-motivation aid — not a therapist, counsellor, or medical professional. It is intended to help with academic-context stress (exam anxiety, focus reset, study habits, motivation slumps) and is not a substitute for professional mental-health care, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are experiencing a crisis or persistent distress, please reach out to a qualified professional. In Jordan you can call 911 for emergencies or contact your university counselling centre. Globally, your local emergency number takes priority.
• The study planner is a suggestion, not a commitment. Adapt it to your actual schedule and energy.
• Match scores are heuristics, not judgments of any person's worth. Treat them as a starting suggestion.

7. Payments (Pro tier)

Pro subscriptions are processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Paddle is the seller of record for your purchase, handles payment collection, tax (VAT/sales tax), invoicing, chargebacks, and refund execution. See Paddle's Buyer Terms for the payment-level agreement.

Pro subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled. Cancel anytime via the billing portal; access continues through the end of the paid period. Price changes for existing subscribers require 30 days' email notice.

Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy. EU/UK residents retain the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal on new subscriptions.

8. Reporting abuse

If another user is harassing you, breaking these Terms, or you've been contacted by someone under false pretenses, use the in-app "Report" button on their profile. Reports go to a human (currently the founder) and are reviewed within 48 hours. We may remove content, suspend, or permanently ban accounts found in violation.

9. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if your payment fails, if your university revokes your enrolment, or if we reasonably believe you pose a risk to other users. You can also delete your own account at any time via Profile → Settings → Delete account (coming soon; in the meantime email us at basudrusjo@gmail.com and we act within 30 days).

10. Availability & service changes

We work hard to keep Bas Udrus online but offer no uptime guarantee. The service is provided "as is". We may add, change, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bas Udrus and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, reputation, or academic outcomes. Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or JOD 25 if you are a Free user.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from third-party claims arising from your breach of these Terms, your content, or your violation of any law.

13. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Any dispute will first be attempted in good-faith mediation; unresolved disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Amman courts. EU consumers retain any protections required by their local law.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes are announced by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you disagree, stop using the service and delete your account.
